Goethite discovered on Mars

David Bowie recorded "Life on mars" 13 years ago, but apart from Tim Burton's "Mars Attacks" there has been little evidence of alien life forms. However, finding evidence of ancient water existence would be a step in the right direction.

The robot rover Spirit has recently discovered goethite, a mineral only known to form on Earth in the presence of water. This mission is actually so cool you could use it for a refridgerator.

I remember the summer of 1997 when the Pathfinder was the first human object to actually roam the surface of Mars. I was hooked to the live broadcast by using Netscape Navigator and closely followed the movement of the little sandcrawler as it was manouvred very carefully across the dusty plains covered with large obstacles. Fascinating stuff.
